OK, so this is probably not a highly original Thursday Thirteen for October, but here we go:
1. Pumpkins contain potassium and Vitamin A.
2. Pumpkin flowers are edible.
3. The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.
4. In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling.
5. Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites.
6. The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 1,140 pounds.
7. The Connecticut field variety is the traditional American pumpkin.
8. Pumpkins are 90 percent water.
9. Eighty percent of the pumpkin supply in the United States is available in October.
10. Native Americans flattened strips of pumpkins, dried them and made mats.
11. Native Americans called pumpkins "isqoutm squash."
12. Native Americans used pumpkin seeds for food and medicine.
13. The "pumpkin capital" of the world is Morton, Illinois. This self proclaimed pumpkin capital is where you'll find the home of the Libby corporation's pumpkin industry.

Great list! I think we've had one of the world's largest pumpkins at my house growing up... my dad would seek out THE largest pumpkin every time! It was funny.
1140 pounds? That's one big pumpkin. Great list. Happy T13!
Very interesting list, I had no idea any of those things were true of pumpkins. Particularly interesting, I thought, was that pumpkins are 90% water...who knew?
I never knew that pumpkin flowers were edible.
I'm sharing some awards; stop by.
I think I'll name my first born Isqoutm. There's no way people will make fun of that. :-)
Did you know(Which you probably do) that Illinois is the Number 1 for growing the most pumpkins?
Just thought I would add my fact finding to your list.
So fun to read! I love the 'once used to remove freckles' one. I have a ton and tried everything as a kid (or so I thought...this, I never did try!). But now I'm resigned to loving my freckles!!! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Happy wonderful and wacky Wednesday to you! ~ Les
