Kiss Me, I'm Irish

March is Irish-American Heritage Month

(L) Grace Kelly, just one of many famous Irish Americans

Ireland has always called to me, and I know it's because of the fact that Irish blood runs in my veins from more than one branch of my family tree.

As an American who claims some Irish roots, I'm far from alone. This from the Irish-American Heritage website:

Forty-four million Americans proudly share their Irish ancestry, especially in celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with parades, family gatherings, Masses, dances, etc. The American Foundation for Irish Heritage wants to have the same national recognition as other ethnic cultural celebrations...[this] can and will only happen with all Irish Americans taking action to succeed in that goal by appropriately commemorating our heritage, history and culture. Irish Americans have done so much to shape and form virtually all areas of life in the United States throughout our country’s great history. We must act now and speak up in order to be heard.
Are you an Irish-American? Here are some famous people, both past and present, that share your roots.

President John F. Kennedy

Actor Gabriel Byrne--born in Ireland, but lives in the USA and holds dual citizenship

Conservative political commentator Sean Hannity

Actor and director Edward Burns

Actress Maureen O'Hara

President Ronald Reagan

Actor Aidan Quinn--born in Chicago to Irish parents, but actually lived in my city of Rockford, IL for a while!

Tell me about your Irish roots!

My great-grandmother was Mary Emeline Malone, but I don't know how much further back I must go to touch Ireland. From the research I've done so far, it is probably back to before the Revolutionary War.

Hey Cindy.

Believe it or not, Tricia and I leave for Ireland Monday (March 7). Our kids and extended family gave it to us as a Christmas gift. We will be in Doolin for three days and then who knows where? Take care and say hello to Doug for us!

Mark and Tricia
