Ran across this news item yesterday:
Sophia is replacing Isabella as the most popular baby name for a girl in the U.S. The Social Security Administration's list of baby names chosen most often in 2011 has Jacob in first place on the boys' side for a 13th straight year. Some other popular names for girls include Emma, Olivia, Ava and Emily. Parents of baby boys are most often picking names like Mason, William, Jayden, Noah and Michael.
(Michael's still there! After being number one for ages, it's far down the list now, but still hanging on. Michael endures!)
Just for fun, I rounded up some photos of famous people or fictional characters bearing some of the favorite names. Enjoy...

Its not quite Ava, but my maternal grandmother's name was Eva which I always thought a beautiful name. She was a real character and special to me My other grandmother's name was also beautiful It was Roxanne or Roxie which is what everyone called her. I thought I would name my daughter Eva Roxanne but fathers do have a say in babies names too so I did not. Fooey
My 9-y-o son's name is Jacob. I didn't pick it because it was popular; I picked it because it went well with his older brother's name - Caleb. And it's biblical, which was kind of our "theme"... (If I had had a girl, she wouldn't have followed the theme. She would've been Bailey Giuliana.) Now, however, I find that might have been a mistake. Every now and then, I come out with "Jaleb"... :)
Gracie, Eva is often pronounced Ava too! Both are beautiful names. And yes, those pesky dads have to have a say in the baby naming too :)
Ashley, my daughter didn't follow the theme either. We had J's--Jonathan and Justin. But I had always wanted a daughter named Elizabeth, so we departed from the J's for her! :)
You could have used a picture of Emma. ;) She is pretty popular. At least with me. lol.
