You know I don't happen to believe that after you reach a certain age, you can only wear neutral eye shadow. But sometimes it just makes sense, and can be really pretty.
Recently I took advantage of an amazing gift-with-purchase at Ulta, one of my favorite places to buy make-up. If you spent 17.50 on Ulta make-up or make-up tools, you got a gift bag with 13 Ulta make-up items!
What an awesome deal...oh, and you could choose from three color families. The bag I chose was called "Lavender Fields," but it wasn't just purple stuff.
It also included a lovely neutral eye-shadow quad, and that's what I used in these pictures...along with the mascara that came with the gift.
So here's what I did:
--I used ELF eyelid primer (the only non-Ulta thing I used) all over the lid, all the way up to the brow..
--I then used a fluffy brush to apply Ulta "bone" all over the lid, all the way up to the brow.
--I used Ulta "mystique" on the eyelid itself.
--I used a small brush to apply Ulta "espresso" in the crease and the outer corner of the eyelid, then used a blending brush to soften and blend it, making it "smokey."
--Oops, I forgot, I used one other non-Ulta thing. Above my lashes, I used Clinique cream liner in black.
--Under my eye, I used Ulta eyeliner in deep brown. I then smudged espresso eyeshadow over the line (that helps keep it in place for the duration.)
--I used Ulta Voluptuous Volume in black on both my upper and lower lashes. As you can see, my lashes aren't very long, which bugs the heck out of me. I don't want to pay for some expensive drug to make them longer, so maybe I'll try to get more adept at using false lashes!

Beautiful, Cindy! I have an Ulta close to me, but I've never been in. I guess I need to check it out. That gift with purchase deal was great! I typically use a little of this and a little of that... I used to use all Mary Kay, but when they changed their eye shadow formula, I had to switch. It made my eyelids red, scaly, and itchy. Ugh! I ended up going with less expensive stuff for just about everything except cleanser. I'm down to the broken bits of my last eye shadow purchase, so I might run by Ulta before long and see what they have before I buy more from Wal-Mart. Thanks for the tips!
I adore Ulta too, and I will have to look for this special offer. You look lovely in your new shades. Thanks so much for linking up to Visible Monday too!
Ashley, I really love Ulta. Make sure you "join" their club and get a card...each time you use the card it adds up, and you're sent special coupons.
I love their own line of eye and lip products, but I DON'T like their lotions or hair products. But they sell pretty much all the product lines, drugstore and high-end.
I'm a total Ulta Bimbo :). I read a book called "How to look 10 years Younger" a few years ago when I was turning 50, and it said the BEST eye makeup to wear is neutrals on the eyes. Pretty much exactly like you have done here. BTW, wanted to mention that I posted on my blog today about your Wawa laugh fest :) I can't even begin to tell you how many people I have shared that with and how many laughs your have brought all of us. I linked back to your blog in my post too. Have a great day :)

Cindy, enjoyed this so much and you did a great job, beautiful eyes!
Your makeup is perfection! Thanks so much for sharing your style on Monday Mingle.
It's so beautiful! :) I would say I am no expert in make-up and still learning. Love that color on you though. Beautiful! Visiting you back.

nice work Cindy, thanks for the tip. I like smokey eyes, it adds some glam to the whole look! I am using a lot of neutral colors nowadays to create the less made up look. I think you did a wonderful job, the make up really enhances your best features, especially the eyes!
